One of the most popular options in the American Gold Eagle Series is the smallest gold coin in the series. Introduced in 1986, the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Coin has often been the highest minted in the series in a given year and also holds the record for the highest single-year mintage of any weight in the series.

There are two ways that you can measure the popularity of the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Coin. One can look at the number of years in the US Mint history that this coin finished with the highest mintage among the four coins in the series. The other is to look at which weight has the highest individual mintage.

Since 1986, the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle has finished as the highest-minted coin in a given year 16 times, as of 2021. The 1 oz Gold Eagle is the only coin to have more years with the highest mintage. Additionally, the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle holds the single highest mintage in the program’s history at 2.75 million coins in 1999. This is not only the highest single mintage, but it stands there by a wide margin of more than 1.25 million coins higher than its next closest competitor, the 1999 1 oz Gold Eagle.

The obverse of the American Gold Eagle Coin comes with Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ bust of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907, it shows the front-facing figure of Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.

On the reverse side of 1/10 oz Gold Eagles, you will find one of two depictions. The original design from Miley Busiek shows a family of bald eagles in and around a nest and was used through mid-2021. As of mid-2021, Jennie Norris’ new image of a bald eagle in a portrait is shown.

These 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are offered in plastic flips from varied years of issue. We do not guarantee a specific year in advance and would like you to note that it is possible to receive matching years of issue when buying more than one.
